Sarwan Controversy

07 December 2011, Georgetown - The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) left out Ronnie Sarwan from the Guyana T20 team this week, because the selectors were "unsure about the injury issues affecting Mr Sarwan" and a WICB team submittal deadline had to be met.

Sarwan did not participate in the recent tournament used to select the team, and the GCB advised him to be available for trial matches for the regional first class competition, beginning in February 2012.

Sarwan responded by saying that he was "cleared to play by the medical people" and that the GCB was "treating him like a little boy". He deemed his omission "a case of people being vindictive against me".

Former GCB member Claude Raphael stated that he believed Sarwan's omission was a plot between the WICB and GCB, an opinion later supported by the  WIPA.

The GCB responded by stating that Sarwan's medical report was late and he was abusive to GCB members during (telephone) discussions on the matter. The GCB was "now in the process of instituting disciplinary measures".
