Albion, Port Mourant in Semi-final
Ramcharitar Construction Services 50- over cricket…
Albion Community Centre and Port Mourant Karibee Rice will clash today at the Port Mourant ground in the first semi-final of the 2011 Ramcharitar Construction Services First Division 50-over cricket competition in Berbice.
To earn their places in the semi-final, Port Mourant Karibee Rice recorded easy first and second round victories against Blairmont Community Centre and Police ‘B’ Division, while Albion Community Centre, after defeating Memorex Bermine in their first round and earning a bye, were given the green light to advance by the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) Competitions Committee after a protest lodged by Memorex Bermine was turned down.
Memorex Bermine had objected to one of the umpires reversing a decision after Albion batsman Narsingh Deonarine was given out leg before wicket. The decision was changed after the left-hander brandished his bat in the direction of the said umpire.
Even though the Albion bowling attack will be weakened by the absence of Test leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo and national left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul, their batting line-up, which includes two former Test players in Deonarine and Sewnarine Chattergoon, as well as Guyana 20/20 bats man Jonathan Foo, backed up by two other Chattergoon siblings, Ramnarine and Harrinarine, may give them the edge.
With Moshin Perkhan, who scored back- to-back half-centuries in Port Mourant’s two matches, reportedly overseas, Port Mourant will depend heavily on the batting of Shastri Persaud, Andre Percival, Devendra Thakurdeen, and Chandrashekar Arjune.
The spin attack, comprising Rajendra Bolo, Robert Moore, Percival and Thakurdeen, could give Albion a tough time.
The umpires named are Rafik Latif and Imran Moakan. The match is scheduled to bowl off at 09:30h.
