The Special Events Committee (SEC) of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB), as part of its cricket development programme, has arranged two Under-21 matches between Cellink Berbice and Georgetown. The matches would be played on Wednesday December 21 at the Cumberland Ground in Canje and on Wednesday December 28 at the DCC in the City.

Chairman of the SEC, Hilbert Foster, stated that the BCB was winding down a very busy year in which it completed over 12 competitions and 75 off the field programmes/projects. The Under-21 matches were organised with the main aim of continuing the development of promising players who would be future stars of the Country at the senior level.

Foster stated that cricket in Berbice is played at the U-13, 15, 17 and 19 levels and the Under-21 matches is just a continuation of age group development.

The first match would see the two teams vying for the Basil Butcher Tribute Trophy. Butcher is a former outstanding middle order batman for Berbice, Guyana and the West Indies. The Georgetown Cricket Association would select a former player from Georgetown to be honoured when the return match is played at the DCC. National player, Anthony Bramble, would lead the Cellink Berbice Team, while Shawn Perriera, would serve as his deputy.

The full team selected: Anthony Bramble, Eon Hooper, Kandasammy Surujnarine, Seon Hetimyer, Jonathan Foo, Dominic Rikhi, Jamal LaFleur, Clinton Pestano, Lloydel Lewis, Gudakesh Motie, Shawn Perriera, Keon Joseph, Keon Dejesus and Kevin Ramdeen. John Samlall is the Manager while Delbert Hicks would serve as Coach.

Meanwhile, as part of the development of fast bowlers, the teams have agreed that sixteen of the mandated 40 overs per side shall be bowled by pacers.
