Berbice Win By An Innings
A penetrative spell of fast bowling by Keon Joseph guided GT&T Berbice to an innings and 53 run victory over the President’s XI as the first round of the Guyana Cricket Board Senior 4-day Inter County tournament concluded yesterday at the Demerara Cricket Club ground.
The President’s XI needing to score 242 to make GT&T Berbice bat again, resumed on their overnight score of 135-6 with Anthony Bramble unbeaten on 78 and Raj Nanan, who was yet to get off the mark, the pair took the score to 150 before Joseph had Nanan caught by wicketkeeper Jason Sinclair for a duck.
Bramble, however, continued from where he left off the previous day, taking the fight to the opposition with aggressive batting but, just as he appeared well set for a century, Joseph who bowled with pace on the flat track, knocked over his stumps for a well played 96 (16x4, 130 balls, 176 minutes). He departed with the score at 155.
Joseph, a former West Indies Under-19 fast bowler, then had Seon Daniels (0) and Gilford Moore (3) caught behind as the President’s XI were bowled out for 188 in 59 overs in the first session of the fourth and final day. Collis Butts ended unbeaten on 25 (5×4) as Joseph finished with 5-65 and Gudakesh Motie Kanhai 2-57.
Scores: President’s XI 182 (Tagenarine Chanderpaul 50, Clinton Pestano 3-55; and 188, Anthony Bramble 96, Keon Joseph 5-65. GT&T Berbice 424-8 declared, Sewnarine Chattergoon 114, Seon Daniels 3-82).
