Bissoon DCB Registers As Friendly Society
While the legitimate board that governs cricket in Demerara is yet to be decided, the Bissoondyal-Singh-led Demerara Cricket Board (DCB), which by all means appear to be the genuine board over the Raj Singh faction, has recently registered under the Friendly Societies Act.
Bissoondyal Singh said that the DCB was registered last Friday by the registrar of Friendly Societies and quoted the registration number as “1216”. The office of the Registrar of Friendly Societies has since issued a Certificate of Registration to the board. Singh added that this is the first time the DCB has been registered with the Friendly Societies.
The registrar of Friendly Societies, who falls under the Labour, Human Services and Social Security Ministry, is duty-bound to audit, or cause to be audited, any society registered under the Friendly Societies Act, Chapter 36:04, Laws of Guyana. These include timely audited reports, and a proper members’ register, among other critical operational documents.
It is the responsibility of every ‘friendly’ society’ to submit to the registrar of friendly societies their Annual Returns, consisting of information such as receipts and payments, assets and liabilities, movement of membership, changes in trustees, and testimonials of office bearers. The Office of the Registrar of Friendly Societies was established by an Act of 1893, but to date only the Guyana Cricket Board, the Essequibo Cricket Board and now the DCB have registered under this act.
Meanwhile, relating some of the DCB’s plans for the future, Bissoondyal Singh said that the sub-committees have already been formed and they are working towards developing and taking cricket forward, along with sponsorship and fund-raising. “We are trying to eliminate the negative picture and place cricket where it belongs”. Singh is also making a plea to members of the rival faction to join and assist with the development of the game.
