DDL Renews RHTYSC Sponsorship
The Demerara Distillers Limited, under its Pepsi brand, renewed its cricket sponsorship with the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC) Under-19 team for the year 2012 at a cost of $230,000.
The sponsorship marks the ninth successive year that DDL and Pepsi have been sponsoring the team after becoming its official sponsor in 2004, replacing the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company.
Secretary/CEO of the RHTYSC Hilbert Foster at the handing over ceremony on Thursday last hailed Pepsi as one of the foundations of the success story of the Rose Hall-based institution.
He noted that under the sponsorship of Pepsi, the team has won three Berbice Under-19 championships and was runner up twice. Male players like Assad and Addel Fudadin, Delbert Hicks, Shawn Pereira, Loyydel Lewis, Clinton Pestano, Dominique Rikhi, Arif Chan, Shevon Marks and Murphy La Rose are all products of the Pepsi sponsorship while female Under-19 players like Shemaine Campbelle, Jacquelin Singh, Nermala Sewdat, Kimberly King and Teddie Crawford among others have represented both Berbice and Guyana.
Regional Manager of DDL Albert Budhoo praised the RHTYSC as a role model organisation that is clearly one of the best in the Caribbean. Budhoo noted that DDL was pleased to be associated with the RHTYSC and will continue to support the Under-19 team in the future.
The Pepsi A Team will be captained by Shawn Pereira with Arif Chan as his vice captain while the ‘B’ Team will be led by David Lewis and vice captain Brandon Prashad.
The company also handed over 30 Pepsi T/Shirts to the club for players of both teams to play in.
Pepsi is one of the five official sponsors of the cricket teams of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club. The others are Farfan & Mendes Ltd, Bakewell, Metro Office and Computer supplies and Gizmos and Gadgets.
