A GREAT fight  is anticipated when cup-holders, Demerara clash with Berbice in the Jones Cup final, for the emblem of Inter-County Cricket supremacy, at Georgetown Cricket Club ground, Bourda, today. The five-day match continues tomorrow, Sunday, Monday and concludes on Tuesday.

Demerara will start firm favourites to retain the championship in view of Berbice's mediocre attack which was fully exposed by Essequibo's batsmen In their second inrings last Wednesday.

On the other hand Berbice look the stronger batting side with skipper Basil Butcher heading a fine array of stroke makers which includes Roy Fredericks, Alvin Kalicharran, Isaac Surienarine. Karle Chandrapaul, Randolph Ramnarace and J. Abdool.

Demerara will be going into the game with only five accredited batsmen - Stephen Camacho, Horton Dolphin, Vincent Mayers, Egbert Chan and Lloyd Cornelius, who should receive good support from all-rounders Carlyle Miller and Winston English. The team has a varied attack - two pacemen, Winston English and Randolph Blair, medium-pacer Miller and spinners Rex Collymore, Vibert Durjan and Cornelius.

After their unimpressive performance against Essequibo, the Berbice attack of Randolph Ramnarace, Walter Bovell and Rahumat Ali (pacemen), and spinners Indal Persaud and Burlin Saheed must show vast improvement If they hope to win this game. The bowling would be vastly strengthened by the inclusion of schoolboy leg-spinner Mohandas Madramootoo and off-spinner Chandrapaul.

The fielding of Berbice in the semi-final also left much to be desired though wicketkeeper Sydney Jackman did a good job, particularly on the final day with two stumpings and two catches.

Teams: Demerara—S. Camacho (captain). H. Dolphin, V. Mayers, E. Chan, L. Cornelius, C. Miller, R. Collymore, W. English, G. Murray, V. Durjan, R. Blair.
