EBDCA 50-Overs, U19 Sponsors

With support from two corporate entities, the East Bank Demerara Cricket Association (EBDCA) on Saturday launched two competitions that are scheduled to bowl off in the coming weeks.

Goodwood Racing Service of Charlotte and Camp Streets have come on board with the Senior 50-over competition, which they will sponsor for the third year in succession, while G-Spot Bar in Sandy Babb Street, Kitty, will sponsor an Under-19 competition, which will be used to East Bank team for the Inter-Association competition.

The launch of the competitions was done at G-Spot location on Saturday afternoon where officials of the two sponsors and executives of the EBDCA were present to divulge information on the tournaments.

President of the EBDCA, Rohan Sarjoo, thanked both entities for coming on board, noting that sponsorship is vital to the success of cricket on the East Bank. He assured the sponsors that while the availability of grounds on the East Bank is a sore issue, the competitions will be staged as planned with the14-team, 50-over, round-robin tournament starting on April 1 and the five-team Under-19 knockout commencing on Saturday.

The boys from Nandy Park Sports Club are the defending champions of the senior 50-over title. All matches will be played at the Diamond and Bayroc grounds. The teams will be vying for trophies and medals.

Representatives of the sponsors, Ian John of Goodwood Racing Service and Shakira Gafoor of G-Spot, both expressed delight at being part of the EBDCA programme of activities, noting that their support will continue in the future.
