ECCB 10th Academy Tomorrow
The East Coast Cricket Board (ECCB) will hold its tenth annual Cricket Academy from tomorrow, Monday July 25, at the Lusignan Community Centre, East Coast Demerara. The programme which ends on August 5 will involve 50 youths between the ages of 12 – 16 years and will be conducted under the theme ‘Healthy Lifestyle and Sports as a Vocation.’
The objective of the programme is to instill in young cricketers of both sexes, the values of sportsmanship and education; the dangers of substances abuse and the knowledge, skill and attitude required to pursue a career in cricket. President of the East Coast Cricket Board Mr. Bissoondyal Singh will be addressing the gathering, while the feature address will be delivered by Minister of Education Sheik Baksh.
The lecturers scheduled to share their knowledge at the event includes former West Indies player Roger Harper, Edwin Seeraj, Penelope Harris, Ronald Williams, Claude Raphael, Assistant Commissioner Gavin Primo will deliver a special lecture on the use of our roads, Mr. S. Anandjit, Ms. R. Anandjit. Topics to be taught include the History of West Indies cricket, the Laws of Cricket, Scoring, Road Safety, Careers in Cricket, Drugs and Sports, Importance of Education, Food and Nutrition, Leader ship and Sportsmanship, HIV and Teenage Sex, Food and Nutrition, Social Etiquette, Formation of Clubs and Discipline.
The programme Director is former Senior Master and ECCB secretary Mr. Judister Rampersaud and the Coordinator is former National Fast bowler Mr. Robert Adonis. Hardeo Sattaur, Gavin Nedd and Orin Bailey are the coaches in charge of the programme. Programme commence at 9:30 am.
