Mini-tapeball 20/20 tournament…

Over the past few weekends, the mini-tapeball 20/20 cricket tournament continued with some exciting games played at the National Cultural Centre Tarmac. ECI Cardinals and Bravados continued their unbeaten run, while Cargo Fighters notched up their first win.

Outstanding performances by Cardinals’ medium-pacer Karranchand Indarjit and skipper Rawle Munroe secured a win against East-Coast-Demerara-based Terror Squad in the latest action.

Terror Squad won the toss and elected to bat first, but the decision backfired as they lost early wickets, due to some good bowling from the ECI boys. Indarjit grabbed five wickets to help dismiss Terror Squad for 145. In reply, Munroe, who opened the batting, made a well played 50 to secure a six-wicket victory.

Bravados’ skipper Joshua Lakhan continued his good all-round form to help his team to a five-wicket win against Tarmac XI. Tarmac XI batted first and made 155-9 from their allotment of overs. A. Allicock made 56, while skipper Lloyd Burnette contributed 37. M. Mohammed captured two wickets and was supported by all the other bowlers, who each grabbed a wicket.

In reply, Bravados were rocked by some precise bowling and outstanding fielding as they lost their first five wickets cheaply. However, Lakhan and M. Vyphuis formed an unbeaten partnership to see their team over the line in the last over. Lakhan and Vyphuis finished unbeaten on 57 and 17 respectively.

Cargo Fighters whipped Eccles All Stars to all parts of the Tarmac to make a compelling score of 228-8 in 20 overs. S. Ward made an attacking 90, while other contributions came from D. Dick (29), M. Munroe (36) and I. Seecharran (29). In reply, Eccles All Stars could only muster 96 all out with L. Benjamin contributing 20.

In the other game, Farnum Strikers and Tarmac XI played to an exciting tie. Batting first, Farnum Strikers made a challenging 159-9 off their allotted overs. Colin Hollingsworth made 52 with Devon Hernandez and skipper Dexter Bowen contributing 26 each. Bowling for Tarmac, T. Poole, S. Taylor and L. Burnette each grabbed three wickets. In response, Tarmac XI matched the score with Taylor and Jason Chan contributing 27 each. Vickram Panday, Hernandez and Bowen each grabbed three wickets.

The action continues this weekend with more matches at the same venue.
