The Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Busta Big Bash second division 20/20 competition concludes Saturday at the Demerara Cricket Club ground with the semi-finals and final.

The event, which begins at 8:30 am, will conclude the GCA 2009 Cricket Programme which began November last year. The competition has seen the return of many past players who will team up with some emerging talents in an effort to provide some entertaining matches.

The winner of Group ‘A’ Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) will meet Group B runner-up, Malteenoes Cricket Club in the first semi-final. Group A runner-up, Everest Cricket Club (ECC) will then face Group B winner Guyana National Industrial Corporation Sports Club (GNIC) in the other semi-final.

Everest CC, who lost just one game in the preliminary stages to eventual group leaders GCC, will be led by Andrew Lovell and will include Surendra Hiralall, Chris Pattadin, the Pereira brothers, former national player David Harper and youth wicketkeeper Dennis Mangru.

Paul Bevan will lead the GCC side and he is expected to receive support from youth players Delon Fernandes, W. Hyman and S Grimes while GNIC will feature former West Indies player and current chairman of the WI selection panel Clyde Butts, Guyana youth player Dexter Solomon and the talented Ranole Bourne.

Former national player Neil Barry, former junior nationals Sean Holder, Danny Narayan, the explosive opener Troy Lewis, current junior nationals Seon Daniels and Shaquille Williams will spearhead the Malteenoes challenge.

According to a press release, the day will also see a well-stocked bar as well as a barbeque sale and pulsating music for the spectators. The sales from raffle tickets on the final day’s programme will go towards the GCA cricket development fund.
