Dexter George and Tevin Imlach slammed half centuries to guide Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) to 243-9 when rain ended play in the final session of their Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/Noble House Sea Foods second division 2-day game against Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) yesterday.

Batting first at the Gandhi Youth Organisation ground after play was delayed for over an hour due to a moist pitch, DCC were given a bright start by Imlach and Kemol Savory with the pair adding 61 for the opening stand before Savory was stumped by Martin Pestano- Belle off Tariq Dharamlall for 35 (7×4).

Steady bowling thereafter by GCC saw their opponents losing wickets at regular intervals and were reduced to 119-6 before George and Cleon Mc Ewan (12) added 19 for seventh wicket, but when left arm spinner Devon Lord had Mc Ewan caught at first slip, DCC were in danger of being bowled out for a below par total as two more quick wickets fell to be at 143-9.

But George and Lawrence Smith batted sensibly, frustrating GCC with a last wicket stand of 100 before rain halted play. George stroked nine fours to remain unbeaten on 78, while Smith who mixed aggression with defence is on 38 (7×4). Dharamlall who bowled with variation has so far bagged 5-56 while Lord has 3-42.

At Muslim Youth Organisation, St. Stanislaus were skittled for 38 in 18 overs against the host after play started 16:00 hrs due to wet spots on the pitch. Imtiaz Pooran was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Parmanand Parsram and Richard Latiff took two each. However, Rain prevented MYO reply.

At University of Guyana (UG), Police won the toss and inserted the home team after play finally got underway just before lunch due to rain. UG were 130-6 when rain prevented further play just before the scheduled close. Omesh Dhanram scored 30 while Rawl Haynes claimed 3-44, Vishal Jaigobin and Edison Williams has so far taken one apiece.
