Assistant Treasurer of the Guyana Cricket Board Pretipaul Jaigobin was last Friday night arrested by Police on the East Coast of Demerara for driving his motor Vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

A reliable source told Kaieteur News yesterday that the heavily intoxicated GCB official was driving in a dangerous manner on the Railway Embankment Road in the vicinity of Ogle when he was apprehended. Jaigobin, who was released on Station bail, failed to attend his Court hearing on Monday and the source said that if he misses his next Court date, a warrant will be issued for his arrest.

Jaigobin was doused with acid by an unidentified man last year in a restaurant in Strathspey, East Coast Demerara but despite speculation by Jaigobin that the incident was cricket related the Clonbrook, East Coast Demerara resident who is employed by the Ministry of Finance, opted not to follow up the incident for security reasons. No one has been arrested in connection with the incident as yet.

President of the GCB Chetram Singh said that he did not believe cricket board members were involved in the incident and was hoping that Jaigobin would have ensured that a comprehensive investigation was done since the allegations has affected the image of the GCB.

Jaigobin’s face is still disfigured but he has returned to his Ministry work and as a cricket Administrator. The vocal Jaigobin spent several weeks in the Burn Care Unit of the Georgetown Hospital. He is also an executive on the Bissoon Singh-led team in one the two feuding factions of the Demerara Cricket Board.
