Gilkes Spurs GYO To Outright Win
A brilliant all-round performance from Earl Gilkes led Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) to a 162-run victory over Transport Sports Club (TSC) when action in the Georgetown Cricket Association’s Hadi’s Mall first division, two-day cricket competition continued at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary, last weekend.
Batting first, GYO posted 164-9 declared with the right-handed Gilkes leading the way with 63, and Wayne Narine supporting with 51. Kevin Ross bagged 6-52 bowling for TSC, who crumbled to 73 all out, conceding a massive first innings lead of 91. Gilkes, bowling medium-pace, returned with the ball to snare 7-17, while Wazir Mohamed picked up 2-10.
In their second turn at the crease, the GYO batsmen again declared at 162-6, with Gilkes missing out on a hundred by four runs. Ross was again amongst the wickets, capturing 5-37 for match figures of 11-89. Ross’ hardwork would go in vain, as TSC, set an improbable target of 253, were skittled out for a meager 91. A Rahim (2-9), Ravie Singh (2-11) and Rawle Munroe (2-21) were the pick of the bowlers for GYO.
