GSL Is Sole Authority For Softball

Director of Sports Neil Kumar, in an invited comment by this publication, revealed that the Guyana Softball League has the sole authority to organise national/regional softball competitions, and also the right to oversee the affairs of local softball clubs in the country.

Kumar further mentioned that the organisation is registered under the Friendly Societies Act, in compliance with the laws of Guyana. He also mentioned that while the National Sports Commission ( NSC) welcomes any initiative by individuals of groups, their main priority remains with national associations.

Executive Secretary of the Guyana Softball League, Leonard Harprashad, said that since the league came into existence in 2000, it has grown from strength to strength, with affiliates right across the country, including Berbice and Essequibo. He said organisation plans to organise more competitions at the youth level, including Under-15 and Under-17, in both the male and the female categories. Development of the game at the primary school level is also high on the organisation’s agenda.

Harprashad also stated that the administrators would like to encourage all clubs wishing to be part of the softball cricket family to become affiliated to the body.
