GT&T 10/10 Registration Extended
Chairman of the GT&T 2011 10/10 Coordinating Committee, Carmachand Rambarran, informed this publication that the registration process for this year’s Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T)-sponsored 10/10 cricket competition has been extended until Monday January 31. Rambarran said that due to the overwhelming response from both male and female teams, it was decided to extend the registration process.
“Our last count revealed that over 800 teams have already registered,” Rambarran stated. The competition is being organised by the Guyana Softball League (GSL) in collaboration with the Culture, Youth and Sports Ministry.
Interested teams can obtain their registration forms from a ‘cut-out’ in the daily Stabroek News and drop them off at any GT&T business office, any GSL representative, Auto Fashions, or any Cell Phone Shack location. Registration for the tournament is free of charge. The tournament will be run under the rule book of the GSL. It is set to bowl off on February 12.
This year’s winnings will be to the tune of $10 million in cash and prizes, with some $30 million expected to be spent for the entire duration of the tournament. The winning male team will cart off $2 million, while the top female team will receive $1 million.
The inaugural tournament, which saw participation from some 584 teams, was deemed the biggest and most successful softball event ever staged locally to date. Trophy Stall XI emerged champions over the Crabwood Creek Unstoppables by 51 runs, and walked away with the top prize of $1 million.
