GT&T Tournament Plan Progressing
Chairman of the GT& T 2011 10/ 10 Coordinating Committee, Carmachand Rambarran, in an invited comment by this newspaper, revealed that plans for the upcoming GT& T 10/10 2011 tournament are processing as scheduled.
“The most important aspect of the tournament, sponsorship, has been secured. At the moment we have eight sponsors on board, namely, Coca Cola, Vita Malt, Tropical Mist, Impressions, Cell Phone Shack, Auto Fashions, Buddy’s Night Club and Kings Jewelry World,” Rambarran revealed. The coordinating committee’s chairman further revealed that from all indications the registration process is moving apace, “There have been an overwhelming response from both male and female teams to date,” Rambarran stated.
Interested teams can uplift their registration forms from a cut-out from the daily Stabroek News and drop them off at any GT&T business office or any Guyana Softball League (GSL) representative, Auto Fashions or any Cell Phone Shack location. Registration for the tournament is free of charge and will run until January 25. The competition will be run under the rule-book of the GSL and will see the introduction of a female category this time around with the winner carting off a big purse.
The tournament is being held in collaboration with the Culture, Youth and Sport Ministry and the GSL and is set to bowl off on February 12 with a whopping $10 million in cash and prizes up for grabs.
The 2010 tournament, which received participation from some 584 teams, has been deemed the biggest and most successful softball event ever staged locally, to date. This year’s tournament is already set to be even bigger with some 1000 teams expected to participate. In the inaugural tournament, Trophy Stall XI emerged champions over the Crabwood Creek Unstoppables by 51 runs, and walked away with the top prize of $1million.
