Trophy Stall and New York Sport Club Legend have advanced to today’s final of Open category as action in the Guyana Cup softball cricket competition continued yesterday at various grounds in the city.

In the semi-final played at Demerara Cricket Club ground, Queenstown, Trophy Stall defeated Wolf Warriors by four wickets. Batting first, Wolf Warriors managed 163-9 from 15 overs with Asad Azeez making 55 and Amit Rai 47. Bowling for Trophy Stall, Diaram Ramnauth took 2-28 and Wasim Haslim 2-18. In reply, Trophy Stall reached 166-6 from 12.5 overs with Haslim topscoring with 58. Surujpaul Deosarran supported with 42.

In the other semi-final played at Everest Cricket Club ground, Camp Road, New York Sport Club Legend beat Speed Boat XI by eight wickets. Batting first after winning the toss, Speed Boat XI were bowled out for 100 in 14.5 overs. The visitors in reply reached 103-2 in 11 overs. A. Beria topscored with 50.

Meanwhile, in the Masters’ category, New York President XI defeated their New York counterparts (New York Legend) by 21 runs, and in the process, advanced to the final. The other Masters’ semi-final between Savage Masters and Bedi Masters was still in progress up to press time last evening.

Meanwhile, for added entertainment in today’s finals at Everest, the Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Association plans to create a carnival atmosphere. Tents will be set up beyond the boundaries, while Travellers sound system, dancers (female & male) and tassa drums will be present.

There will also be three female 10/10 exhibition games, featuring Mike’s Wellwoman, 4R Lioness, Trophy Stall Angels and Karibee Girls, before the two finals.

Action will start at 09:30 hours and admission is $500, while the Guyana Softball Cup 2 magazine will be on sale at a cost of $300 each.

Total prize money on offer is $1,900,000 along with many beautiful trophies. The winning team for Guyana Softball Cup 2 Open category will collect a massive trophy and $800,000, while the runner-up will receive a trophy and $200,000. In the Masters’ category, the winning prize will be $600,000 and a trophy; runner-up will receive a trophy and $200,000. The two players of the tournament will each receive 10 pennyweight 14 carat men’s gold bracelet valued at $300,000.
