Guyana T20 Women Defeat T&T
St George's, Grenada - The first round of matches in the Regional Women's Twenty20 entailed four matches across two venues on the island of Grenada.
At TANTEEN - Guyana's bowlers kept things tight and offered few boundaries to the Trinidad & Tobago batters to open their Regional Women's Twenty20 campaign with a convincing 27-run win. After being sent in to bat, the Guyanese batters got off to a solid start, forming good partnerships.
Shemaine Campbell top scored with 37 while June Ogle made 29 and Tremayne Smartt chipped in with 25. Campbell's knock came in just 27 balls, and she struck five fours in her 36-minute stay at the crease. Ogle was the one though that gave the innings a good start at the top of the order, striking her 29 runs from 40 balls. At the end, Smartt finished off the innings on a high, smashing 25 runs from just 12 balls. She hit two fours and a six as Guyana ended on 127/4 from their 20 overs.
The Trinis' chase got off to a bad start as they were quickly reduced to 19/3 in less than four overs. Erva Giddings did most of the damage at the top of the order striking two huge blows. Shenelle Lord though fought back for T&T with a valiant 31 from 36 balls. He knock included four boundaries. Britney Cooper provided some stability in the middle-order getting to 21, but she couldn't carry on. The Trinis lost wickets regularly and were restricted to 100/9 from their 20 overs.
