Registration for the Kares Engineering Inc./Bushy Park Sawmills nationwide T10 Tapeball cricket competition closes today, and according to Guyana Softball League’s (GSL) Organising Secretary, Leonard Harprashad, the registration process will not be extended.

We the organisers have decided not to extend the registration process. So interested teams who are not yet registered have at least a few hours to do so,” Harprashad noted.

Meanwhile, the tournament scheduled to start from June 11, will now commence from July 3 due to the current inclement weather. In excess of 550 teams have already been registered, and the tournament will feature a male and female category, as well as a separate category for male and female school teams.

The winning male team will walk away with $1 million, with the losing finalist collecting $400,000, third place $150,000, and fourth $100,000. Trophies will also accompany the cash prizes. The man-of-the-tournament and the man-of-the-final will ride away with one scooter each, while the player with the highest individual score and with the best bowling figure will each receive $25,000.

All zone winners will be rewarded with $10,000 and a trophy. The female champion team will cash in on $500,000, while the runners-up will collect $250,000. The woman-of-the-fi‑nal will also ride away with a scooter, while the player with the highest individual score and best bowling figure will earn $10,000 each. The respective zone champions will also receive $10,000.

Apart from the $200,000 set aside for the winner of the schools’ tournament, the players-of-the-semi-finals and finals (male and female) will each receive one laptop. Close to $25 million has been injected into the competition, which is organised by the Guyana Softball League (GSL), and is aimed at creating interaction among the various communities, as well as fostering social cohesion.

Meanwhile, the tournament will be run under the rule book of the Guyana Softball League, and the 2003 Code of the Laws of Cricket will apply in all matches.
