Madholall Helps Reliance Win
Senior Essequibo Inter-County player Narindra Madholall hit a stroke-filled 55 to spur Reliance Scheme to an exciting 13-run win over Reliance in the annual Ravendra Madholall-sponsored 15-over softball match.
Playing at the Reliance Sports Club ground in Essequibo last weekend, the left-hander smacked four sixes and three fours as defending champions Reliance Scheme tallied 150 all out off 14.3 overs. In reply, Reliance reached 137-9 when the overs expired.
Former national youth player, Shivanandan Madholall, chipped in with 24 to support his brother Narindra after their team was precariously placed at 25-4 in the fifth over. The experienced Dhanny Benny, Kishan Persaud and Marvin Pearson picked up two wickets apiece.
When Reliance batted, skipper Sunil Lall provided the only resistance with 25, which included two fours, while Pearson was left not out on 19.
Former Guyana under-15 batsman Rovindra Parasram nabbed 3-12 from his allotted three overs, while Narindra and Shivanandan supported with two scalps apiece.
The winning team received a trophy, while Narindra Madholall copped the man-of-the-match trophy, compliments of the Trophy Stall of Bourda Market.
Ravendra Madholall, who now resides in Canada, stated that he was happy to give back to the village and was delighted to see the participation of the players.
Ravendra, a former sport journalist, told the gathering at the presentation that he will support the club in any way possible to keep the game alive on the Essequibo Coast. He promised an even more exciting and attractive competition next year.
