MCY&S Donates $3M To QC Pavilion
The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport has allocated three million dollars towards the construction of a pavilion in the compound of the Queen’s College ground, Thomas Lands.
Works on the pavilion, which is estimated to cost 14 million dollars, will commence as soon as the school is able to raise the amount.
At a small ceremony at his office, Sport Minister Dr. Frank Anthony, after presenting the cheque to Deputy Headmistress (ag), Lenise Parker, said the administration is pleased to assist the learning institution.
He said government allocated $100M towards the development of grounds countrywide and the donation to Queen’s College is from that allocation. The minister wished the school well in raising the remaining amount, while calling on corporate entities to pitch in and assist in the execution of the project.
In accepting the cheque, Parker said the Ministry’s contribution will go a far way in helping the school to complete the structure. She said QC is not just focused on students’ academic development, but also their involvement in extra-curricular activities.
Apart from the Sport Ministry, Desinco Trading has presented a cheque valued $1.5m to assist with expense to build the facility, while the Queen’s College Old Students- Worldwide has injected $2m into the project. The Parent Teachers Association of the school and the New York Chapter of its Old Students Association have also donated $1m each. The school is calling on the business community and well-wishers to chip in and make the project a reality.
