Memorex Edge Universal DVD Titans
Defending champions Memorex defeated Universal DVD Titans by nine runs in the second Georgetown Softball Cricket League Inc. 12/12 tournament at the Everest Cricket Club ground, earning them a place in the quarter-final this weekend.
This came after defeating R1 in their Group D encounter. Also chalking up victories in Group B were Speed Boat, Recharge and Better Hope, although Better Hope would be later knocked out by Recharge.
Meanwhile, Universal DVD Titans won the toss and asked Memorex to take first strike and the defending champions posted 92 for 8 from their 12 overs. Alvin Ramdass, 31 (3×6), Roy Jaffarally, 27 (3×4, 1×6) and West Indies Under-19 selectee Shimron Hetmyer, 15 (2×6), led Memorex’s batting. Mahendra Baldeo took 2 for 7 for Universal DVD Titans.
In reply, Titans struggled and were bowled out for 84 from 11.4 overs. Only Chandrashaker Arjune, 21 (1×6), and David Lukenauth, 17 (1×6, 1×4), provided meaningful scores. Vikendar Mohammed, Keon Sinclair and Vishal Phillips took two wickets for 10, 16 and 27 runs respectively.
Earlier in the day, Titans reduced R1 to 92 for 8 in their first match, with Khalim Baksh, 22 (2×6, 1×4) and Brian Mangar, 20 (2×6, 1×4) leading the batting. Rajendra Sookdeo (3 for 19), Lukenauth (2 for 16) and Totaram Seenanand (2 for 17) led Titans’ bowling attack.
Lukenauth returned to hit an unbeaten 56 (3×4, 6×6) in 23 deliveries and together with Rajiv Ivan’s 20, steered the Titans to 94 for 3 from 7.4 overs.
