Narayan Ton Highlights Heroes Cup
Action resumed yesterday in Carib Beer and “Friends of Cricket” sponsored 1st Division Heroes Cup 2-day competition organised by the Georgetown Cricket Association. The tournament, currently in its fourth round, had 3 matches yesterday. Danny Narayan slammed a century to highlight the day’s contests, representing Malteenoes in their match against Transport at the Everest ground.
At the Everest Cricket Club, Malteenoes batting first against Transport had a shaky start, losing 2 early wickets. Captain Danny Narayan then came to the crease and steadied the boat with a well deserved century (126). His maiden First Division century could not have at a better time, with the team in dire straits. This knock helped the team to reach an appropriate target and the skipper declared on 241. K. Ross and O. Batson snared 3 wickets a piece for Transport.
Batting after the tea break Transport lost 2 early wickets before close of play, both to E. Burnett. Scores: Malteenoes 241-8 declared. Transport 48-2.
At DCC, the home team took on GNIC and the host batting first saw Chris Barnwell (68) and West Indies youth batsman, Trevon Griffith (53) making half centuries. Griffith was dismissed just before the lunch interval. He scored 3 fours and two sixes. DCC were bowled out for 276 thanks to Mohammed (4-72) and Hercules (2- 67). Scores: DCC 276 all out; GNIC 12 – 0.
The encounter between GCC and Police at GCC saw Gavin Singh (91) losing out on a century and Robin Bacchus (47), missing out on a half century. GCC compiled 305 with 2 wickets a piece to J. Heyliger, V. Jaigobin, S. Fazal, and Pernell London. Scores: GCC 305 all out.
