NBS Renews BCB Div 2 Sponsorship
The outstanding relationship between the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) and its many sponsors continued on Thursday last when the New Building Society (NBS) renewed its sponsorship of the Board’s second-division tournament for 2011. Total sponsorship is worth $538,900 and at the launching, the Bank handed over an initial sum of $300,000.
Public Relations Officer Hilbert Foster applauded the Bank for continuing its investment in the sport stating that it is another giant step in the development of cricket in the Ancient County. Foster said that cricket in Berbice is played at all levels; Under-13, 15, 17, 19, 21, female, second and first division. He noted that this was the main reason why cricket in the County was developing fast.
The second division tournament, he said is by far the largest organised by the Board as almost every village and township takes part since it provides the avenue for young players to rub shoulders with some veteran players who still play at the level.
BCB Competitions Committee Chairman, Carl Moore disclosed that the tournament would attract over 100 teams which would be divided into at least ten zones across both Regions 5 and 6.
The tournament he said would assist in the development of junior cricketers while allowing some older players the opportunity to still be active and competitive. President, Keith Foster expressed gratitude to the Board of Directors and Management of NBS for their continued investment and partnership in Berbice cricket while challenging the teams to play the game in the true spirit of sportsmanship.
NBS Regional Manager Anil Beharry expressed delight at the continued involvement of the Bank in Berbice cricket. Beharry, who is also BCB Treasurer said that the New Building Society is proud to be associated with Berbice cricket as it was showing real progress. He expressed the hope that the tournament would produce new talent for Berbice as it has done in the past.
The BCB is encouraging all second division clubs in Berbice to fill out the forms sent to them by the Board or to call the office on 333-2375 for more information.
