Following the successful hosting of their inaugural tournament, the Georgetown Softball Cricket League (GSCL) has already began planning for another 12/12 championships, which is expected to be played over a four-day period.

As was the position with their inaugural tournament, 12 teams will be invited to do battle for supremacy. Their inaugural tournament culminated at the Everest Cricket Club ground last Sunday and saw Memorex of Berbice defeating reigning Guyana Telephone and Telephone 10/10 champions Regal XI.

Once again, the entrance fee is $50,000 and teams will be entered on a first come first serve basis. The 12 teams will then be placed into two groups where they will play each other once, with the two top teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals.

According the GSCL, the playing dates for the tournament are June 15, 16, 22 and 23 and while the venue has not been confirmed, the officials are looking to have the services of the Camp Road-based Everest Cricket Club for this tournament.

As an added attraction, special giveaways will be presented to members of the public on the playing days, whilst a raffle, which proceeds will go towards charity, will be on sale; the drawing takes place on the final day of the competition.

The Man-of-the-Series, Man-of-the-Match, Best Batsman and Best Bowler of the tournament will be rewarded with special prizes.

Meanwhile, the raffle which was drawn at the end of the first tournament on Sunday last, saw ticket number 020 taking away the first prize of a Daewoo double door refrigerator, while tickets numbers 3214, 2267, 773 and 661 copped the second to fifth placed prizes which were a three-piece living room suite, 32” LCD Sony Bravia television, Royal 4-burner gas stove and G-shock bicycle, in that order.

The holder of ticket number 2267 was the former president of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Chetram Singh, whose representative was on hand to uplift the 32” LCD Sony Bravia television set from Regal Stationery and Computer Centre on Thursday.
