AS the race for the stewardship of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) intensifies, popular sports journalist and Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Sports Consultant, Guyanese Joseph ‘Reds’ Perreira, has thrown his support behind presidential candidate and present Marketing Officer of the GCB, Ramsay Ali.

According to a press release, Perreira, who disclosed his acquaintance with Ali for the past 30 years, believes Ali is the best candidate for the presidency, since he is capable of bringing all the stakeholders together in the best interest of Guyana’s cricket.

The former chairman of the National Sports Council and former OECS Sports Director said he met Ali while he was playing a supporting role to the late Dennis Patterson during the hosting of a Regional table tennis tournament and believes his strong marketing skill makes him an ideal candidate for the presidency of the GCB. He echoed the sentiments at being impressed with Ali’s calm temperament and democratic but firm way in making decisions, which can serve Guyana’s cricket amicably well.

He further pointed out that Ramsay is no stranger to the day-to-day workings of the GCB and their shortcomings, having spent four years as the head of their Marketing Department and added that should Ali be elected to head the GCB, he is more than willing to use his contacts to attract English schools and clubs to Guyana, with a view of increasing sports tourism.

The Annual General Meeting and election of office-bearers of the GCB will take place on Sunday, January 30, at the Georgetown Cricket Club pavilion.
