PRESIDENT Bharrat Jagdeo last night extended congratulations to telecommunication giants Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) on the organising of another successful nationwide 10/10 tournament.
“I wish to congratulate GT&T for having another wonderful and yet again, successful tournament. This tournament brought out a large number of people from across the diasporas of Guyana and certainly, we should never underestimate such a tournament. This tournament served its purpose in bringing together teams and individuals who would not have had the opportunity of meeting each other before and the success of this tournament was made possible by you the players and fans who supported your team wholeheartedly,” said the President.
Prior to President Jagdeo delivering his brief remarks in the presence of newly elected presidential candidate of the People’s Progressive Party/ Civic (PPP/C) Donald Ramotar and Minister of Sport Dr. Frank Anthony, GT&T’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Yog Mahadeo thanked the sponsors for collaborating with his firm to make the tournament a success.
“First of all, I would like to take the opportunity to express heartfelt thanks to His Excellency President Jagdeo who took time out to be here with us tonight, the final night of another wonderful and successful 10/10 competition. I would also like to say thanks to all the sponsors including the Guyana Softball League (GSL) and the Ministry of Sports and all the others who worked hard to make the tournament a success, even onto tonight’s finals,” said Mahadeo.
He continued to state, “This tournament saw lots of integration and teams from all walks of life participating and bringing it to life at times and at the same time, helping us to make it a successful one on the international stage. Such an event like the 10/10 can bring unity across our nation and this is all possible thanks to the teams, organisers, sponsors, officials and most importantly, you the fans.”
At the conclusion of the opening ceremony, President Jagdeo, Mahadeo, Ramotar and Dr. Anthony along with officials from the GSL met the four teams that contested the finals, before the President bowled the first ball to Mahadeo while they all threw GT&T 10/10 balls into the stands.
