Rain Prevents Play In GT&T Matches

Rain ruined some matches in this round of matches but some areas were able to see some exciting play as the communities converge on the venues in action of the GT&T 10/10 cricket competition.

On the West Coast of Demerara, last year's Super 16 team Wolf Warriors led the way as they move through the rounds but are facing good opposition in the likes of Invaders and Street Fighters XI, who pummeled opposing teams into submission. Meanwhile, Wolf Warriors are to clash with Invaders over this weekend in the battle of the West Side champions. In the midst is Alliance XI who will do battle with Street Fighter XI.

The West Bank of Demerara will see Mafia and Speed Boat XI in a showdown as both teams won last weekend. This match is a big one for the West Bank teams as both have a history of keen rivalry.

In Linden the big names also made it through this round as teams like Hill Foot Strikers and South Star and Coomacka Mines will do battle for a place in the Super 16. The female category will see Coomacka Mines making the rounds as they pursue there goal of reaching the Super 16 stage.

In Georgetown, due to the persistent rain and the cancellation of a lot of matches, the big names were not able to clash with their opponents but are expected to be in action this weekend to prove their point. In the female category, the teams are even and should offer some excitement as the team with the endurance should make it to the top. Teams like Hotshots, Wellwoman, Glamazons, 4R Lioness will do battle for the top spot as the category hopefully comes to a close this weekend.

On the lower East Coast, there are many exciting teams left, which include Rockaway Auto Sales XI, Trophy Stall ‘B’ and the favorites Upsetters along with Sandust XI and Lumber Dealers as well as Blue Berry Lions, who have all won their matches by large margins.

On the upper East Coast, Dundee Kings, Mahaica Raiders, Fairfield Cricket Club, Cane Grove Sports Club are the teams that will do battle and it is difficult to pick a winner among this lot as all the teams have been playing good cricket and can take top honours.

In North Essequibo, Cotton Field, last year Super 16 entry, will battle Affiance Storm in the final of that zone to determine the Auper 16 team from this zone.

In Berbice, the New Amsterdam teams with the likes of Memorex XI, last year semifinalist, will have their work cut out as they face the likes of Celebrity Times who have been in sparkling form defeating all by huge margins to storm into the zone final.

In Lower Corentyne, Universal Solutions Tigers will do battle with Courtland XI who have shown glimpses of their form in reaching the semi-final stage in this zone. The winner of this match will clash with a very strong Chesney XI for a Super 16 place.

Central and Upper Corentyne will see Berbice Titans, who are known for their hard ball exploits, take on the likes of last year finalist Crabwood Creek Unstoppables and De Beach Boy who have some big names in their lineup.

In Last weekend matches in the male category of which were low scoring affairs, Cotton Field Wild Oats of Essequibo were the biggest winner by 104 runs as they mauled the Guyana School of Agriculture Essequibo.

In the female category Hot Shots of Georgetown were the biggest winners by 65 runs versus Evablazin XI at the Everest ground.

The highest individual score was by Troy Gonsalves who smashed a stroke filled 76 for the Everest team. The wickets were shared among the bowlers as the conditions saw mostly bowlers dominating. The GT&T team was at Everest last weekend as they up the ante. This weekend’s matches promises more excitement as the big teams in each zone make their way towards a possible showdown.
