Regal XI Tops Georgetown

Regal X1 upset both Success X1 and P& B XI to top the Georgetown/ East Coast Zone in the Regal Stationery & Computer Centre Over-35 Male 20/20 & Female Open 10/10 Softball Cricket Tournament, organised by the Guyana Softball League, in collaboration with the Culture, Youth and Sport Ministry last Sunday at the Demerara Cricket Club ( DCC) ground.

In game 1: Regal XI was invited to take first strike and made 153-6 in 20 overs after Success XI won the toss and elected to bowl. Mahase Chunilall, 52 not out (4x4; 4x6) and Lance Adams 33 (3x6) shared a partnership of 60 off 23 balls that carried them to their eventual score after a shaky start at 60-4.

Vijay Baljit with 2-24 from 4 overs was the most successful bowler for Success XI who in reply was in early trouble at 33-4 off 10 overs and eventually bowled out for 96. Chandradyal Boodram 27 (4x6) provided some late order hitting.

Mark Fung was in devastating form with the ball taking 5 frontline batsmen for only 20 runs in his 4 overs. He was supported by Mahendra Arjune with 2-12 bowling for Regal X1.

In game 2: Regal XI thrashed P&B XI by a huge 171 runs. Regal XI won the toss and elected to bat in favorable conditions, rattling up a huge 255-5 in 20 overs due to a mammoth partnership of 194 off 60 balls by Samuel Kingston 120 (11x6; 3x4) and Mahendra Arjune 81 (4x6; 5x4).

P&B XI, who were already under pressure, being short of one player, closed at 84-9 in 19.1 overs. Ishwar Dass, playing his first game of the competition picked up 4-21. He was supported by Anil Hardyal with 2-10 from 2 overs.

Meanwhile, the Essequibo zone of the female category will be played this Sunday between Cotton Field Superior Woods XI and Wakapau female team for a place in the quarter-finals. The winners will join Marshon SC female team, Mahaica Queens, Mahaica Princesses, Ituni Village Warriors (Linden winners), Monar Institute female team (West Coast Winners) and Berbice winners Heavenly Angels in the quarter- finals to be played shortly.

In the Male Over-35, Mac Masters B XI will be coming up against Success XI at the Cyril Potter College Ground.
