Registration For GT&T T10 Begins

The registration process for the upcoming Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company’s (GT&T) 2011, Countrywide 10/10 Softball Cricket Competition has commenced. The competition is being held in collaboration with the Culture, Youth and Sport Ministry and the Guyana Softball League (GSL).

A close source from the tournament’s organising committee informed this publication that the registration process began yesterday. Registration forms, the source said, can be uplifted at any GT&T branch or GT&T assigned vendor, or any GSL representative. Guyana Times Sport was further informed that registration for the tournament is free of charge and that application forms can be taken from the Stabroek News. The registration process will run until January 25 and the rule-book of the GSL will be in full effect.

The competition, which will see the introduction of a Female category, which will see the winner carting off a big purse, is set to bowl off on February 12. The 2010 Softball Tournament, which received participation from some 584 teams, has been deemed the biggest and most successful softball event ever staged locally, to date. This year’s tournament is already set to be even bigger with some 1000 teams expected to participate. A whopping $10 million in cash and prizes will be up for grabs.

In the inaugural tournament Trophy Stall XI emerged champions over the Crabwood Creek Unstoppables by 51 runs and walked away with the top prize of $1 million. Regal XI’s Richard Latiff, who struck an unbeaten 176 against Shattas XI, was adjudged the best batsman. Clear Waters’ Danram Persaud, who took an unbelievable 7-2, won the best bowler award. Deosarran received the Most Valuable Player award for his six catches and 244 runs scored in the tournament.
