Smartt Helps WI Women To T20 Win
Steady bowling spell from Tremayne Smartt and Anisa Mohammed helped West Indies Women level their 3-match Twenty20 International series with India Women.
In a tense finish at the Sardar Patel Stadium, the Windies beat the Indians by 3 runs on Sunday. The result means the 3-match series is now tied 1-1 and the 2 sides will go at it again on Monday in what will be the series decider. Smartt, the hard-working seamer from Guyana, was the best of the Windies bowlers with 3 wickets for 9 runs from 3 overs, while Mohammed, the world-rated off-spinner, had 2 for 17 from 4 overs, as India Women were restricted to 104 for 8 from their allocation of 20 overs.
The Windies replied with 107 for 7 from their 20 overs. Opener Juliana Nero gave the innings a solid start with 44 from 45 balls with 7 boundaries. Stafanie Taylor made an assured 21 and helped Nero to add 54 for the second wicket, after Deandra Dottin was dismissed for a duck. However, the rest of Windies batting was restricted by the leg-spin of Priyanka Roy, who captured 4 for 19 runs.
