Defending champions Floodlights XI were defeated by Regal Seniors in the Over-40 Male category, Memorex of Berbice defeated Cotton Field of Essequibo and 4R Lioness shocked Shemaine Campbelle’s Rose Hall Females to become the Stag Beer / El Dorado nationwide softball champions last Sunday at the GCC ground, Bourda.

In the Over-40 final, Regal Seniors defeated Floodlight by 85 runs. Regal, batting first, scored 241-5 from the allotted 25 overs. Player-of-the-Match Linden Lyght top-scored with 87, Thakoordial Rampersaud scored 60, and Rudy Rodrigues made 54 not out. Bowling for Floodlights, Imtiaz Mohammed took 3-47. In reply, Floodlights scored 156-7 with Lalta Gainda top-scoring with 66 and Richard Persaud 40. Bowling for Regal, Amarnauth Boodhoo took 3-38.

In the Male Open final, Memorex of Berbice defeated Cotton Field of Essequibo by 7 wickets. Cotton Field batted first and scored 75 all out with Vishal Phillips snapping up 4-14, Shawn Khan 3-14, and Vivian Da Silva 3-16. Memorex reached the target at 76-3 from 8.4 overs with Andy Bharapram (33) and Veerasammy (29*) leading the way.

In the Female championship game, 4R Lioness defeated Rose Hall Females by 6 runs. 4R Lioness made 75-5 from their quota of 10 overs with Shyan Goodluck making 28. Shemaine Cambell took 2-28 for Rose Hall Females, who stumbled to 69-8 when the overs ended. Tracey Glasgow took 2-15, while Goodluck took 1-8 to cop the Player-of-the-Match award.

Earlier in the semi-final matches, 4R Lioness defeated Lusignan Street Warriors by two runs; Rose Hall Females defeated Wellwoman by nine wickets; and Cotton Field defeated Trophy Stall by three wickets.

The Players-of-the-Tournament were Danny Mohanram (Male Over-40), Patrick Khan (Male Open), and Shaneeza Williams (Female category). The nationwide competition was run by the Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA). The season resumes in August with the Mike’s Pharmacy Inter-County Male and Female Softball tournament.
