Super Sixes In Mabaruma
The inaugural Super Sixes Tapeball Cricket Competition in Mabaruma got off to a heated start on Monday with North West Secondary B sending a strong message to other teams with their ten-wicket win over Wauna Primary.
The secondary boys, responding to Wauna Primary’s paltry score of 48 all out from 5.4 overs, blasted their way to victory in just two overs. Orlan Figueredo lashed 44 not out from only 10 balls as North West Secondary B achieved victory on 55 without loss. Figueredo single-handedly slaughtered the Wauna bowlers as he hit 4 sixes and 5 fours and never needed to take a single. Romario Choo felt the brunt of Figueredo’s onslaught and saw one of his overs go for a whopping 36 runs.
Earlier, only Owen James (13) managed a double figure score for the hapless Wauna Primary School, who were actually slated to play Barabina Primary, but the latter failed to field a team. Allistor John and Ashton Castello took a couple of wickets each for Mabaruma Secondary B.
Meanwhile, in the village competition, which is being run simultaneously, Wauna were skittled out for 34 runs from 5.3 overs by Barabina, who then replied with 35 for the loss of two wickets.
Play continues on Saturday at the Hosororo Ground with Hosororo Primary taking on Mabaruma Primary from 13:00 hrs, while in the village competition, Township Transformers will be challenged by Wauna village and Mabaruma Settlement will come up against GDF. Games are also scheduled for Sunday.
