T20 Match For Shiv At Unity
The Unity/Lancaster Sports Club will stage the T20 game and unveiling of a billboard in honour of World Number One Test batsman, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, tomorrow. The match, which will bowl off at 19:00 hours, was originally billed for last Saturday, but heavy rainfall put paid to those plans.
After the unveiling of the massive billboard, featuring Chanderpaul’s achievements as an international cricketer, a Unity/Lancaster XI will take on a Guest XI. The billboard, which will be located in the ground, was donated by Andrew Arts.
Chanderpaul is the West Indies second highest runs-scorer in Test cricket and the first Guyanese batsman to pass 10,000 Test runs. He also has 27 Test centuries, second only to Brian Lara’s 34. Chanderpaul has also accumulated 8,778 runs from 268 ODIs with 11 hundreds and 59 half-centuries.
After the unveiling of the billboard, Chanderpaul will lead the Unity/Lancaster line-up against the Guest XI, boasting players predominantly from Georgetown. Apart from the veteran left-hander, the Unity/Lancaster team will be represented by Chanderpaul’s son Tagenarine, and former national players, batsmen Hemraj Garbarran and Krishna Arjune, spinner Lalchand Persaud and wicketkeeper Shiek Mohamed.
The Guest XI will depend on out-of-favour Ramnaresh Sarwan, Christopher Barnwell, Reon King, Lennox Cush, Leon Johnson, Assad Fudadin, Derwin Christian and Asif Chan. Commentary on the game will stream live on the Voice of Guyana, while several trophies will be up for grabs.
The activity has attracted corporate support from GuyTrac, Andrew Arts, Regal Stationery, Buddy’s Pool Hall and Gym, AFS Shipping, Elegant Jewellery and Pawn Shop, Giftland OfficeMax, Ink Plus and Global Investment. Admission to the venue is free.
