Vantull Propels UG Into Final
Damion Vantull’s allround brilliance in the semi-final against Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) for the Noble House Seafood Two-Day cricket competition over the weekend was enough to push UG into the final next weekend.
Playing at the DCC ground, captain Vantull blasted a century and grabbed 7-30 from 14 overs to destroy the host in their first innings as they were rattled out for 103 in response to UG’s 138 all out.
In their second innings, UG ended on 259-7, drawing the match and advancing into the final after taking first innings honours. Vantull did the damage with the bat, slamming 124 which included 13 sixes and four fours. He was supported by Melroy Stephenson who made 41, while Dennis Squires finished with 4-52.
In the other semi-final at the Ghandi Youth Organisation (GYO) ground, GNIC went through to the final after taking first innings points from GYO. Batting first, GYO managed 107 all out from 50 overs with Anthony Ifill top scoring with 21 while Orlando Fraser accounted for 4-44 from 17.2 overs. In GNIC’s reply, they were bowled out for 188. Ejaz Mohammed made 60 while Garfield De Roach took 4-34 from 11 overs.
GYO was bowled out again in their second innings for 156; Ifill was among the runs again with 42 and Fraser carried his tally of wickets in the match to 10 as he snatched 6-64 from 18.5 overs. GNIC was 14-2 when the second day ended.
Meanwhile, the final of UG’s Inter-faculty Cricket Competition between Social Sciences and Natural Science will be played on Friday at the UG ground.
When these competitions end, a team will be selected to go into training for the Inter-Collegiate tournament which will be held in Barbados next month.
