After an impressive showing with the bat in his previous first-class innings, off spinner Zaheer Mohamed has been drafted into the Guyana Super50 squad for their match against the Windward Islands on Sunday.

This was confirmed by Guyana Times Sport on Tuesday from Chairman of Selectors in the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), Rayon Griffith.

Mohamed, who got another chance to revive his first-class career, after replacing Veersammy Permaul, mid-way through the second round four-day game against Barbados, is the only addition to the squad that won their first Super50 game against the Leeward Islands.

Left-arm spinner Permaul was excused from the match to join the West Indies team preparing for the upcoming One-Day International series against Zimbabwe.

Mohammed, who was overlooked when the squad was chosen, hit an unbeaten 58 in a losing effort to Barbados by 93-runs.

The all-rounder was among 15 players on Guyana’s standby list announced by the senior selectors last month after the conclusion of the GCB Inter-County tournaments.

During those two tournaments, Mohamed played a critical role, in assisting Demerara to emerge as champions in both the one-day and four-day tournaments. In the 50-over segment, the right-hander batsman was not out in all three innings he batted, scoring 18, 25 and 26, while he picked up seven wickets.

In the four-day competition, Mohamed scored 126 runs in four innings, with a highest score of 77 against Essequibo and picked up 14 wickets in the process.

Recent Indian Premier League recruit Christopher Barnwell has been elevated to the captaincy position for the Super50 matches.

Guyana has so far suffered mixed fortunes in the tournaments. They won their first Super50 game against the Leeward Islands, gained first innings points against the Leeward Islands in the first round four-day game before suffering a 93-run defeat to Barbados on Monday.

Meanwhile, veteran West Indies left-handed batsman, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who was given a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to participate in the Bangladesh Premier League, will be available for the third round four-day game against Windward Islands which starts next Wednesday.

Chanderpaul represented the Sylhet Royals in the BPL, but his team was knocked out of the tournament at the semi-final stage by Chittagong Kings.

Super50 squad: Christopher Barnwell (Captain),Rajendra Chandrika, Trevon Griffith, Leon Johnson, Assad Fudadin, Steven Jacobs, Rajiv Ivan, Derwin Christian, Zaheer Mohamed, Devendra Bishoo, Ronsford Beaton, Paul Wintz and Ricardo Adams.
