The Corentyne High School was established in 1938, with Joseph Chamberlain Chandisingh becoming principal in 1940. The school was enlarged in 1960, when a cricket field and other sports facilities were also added. It came under government control in 1978.
Outstanding cricketers from Corentyne High School include: Basil Butcher, Reginald Etwaroo, Romain Etwaroo (teacher), Tyrone Etwaroo, Assad Fudadin, Dereck Kallicharran, Ivan Madray, Hermala Sewdat and Joe Solomon.
