D'Edward Cricket Club

Name: D'Edward Sports Club
Location: D'Edward, West Coast Berbice

D’Edward village situated on the West Coast of Berbice between Cotton Tree Village and Rosignol, 65 miles east of Georgetown, is sometimes referred to as Sir James village. With a population of about 400, the village, which was established at least as far back as 1845, is at the western end of the Berbice River bridge.

The D'Edward Sports Club has Under-17, Under-17 and Under-19 teams and plays in the 2nd Division.

In 1994, under local businessman Derick Lalsa, the village started renovating its ground, with some help from Blairmont Estate. The Youth Choice Initiative provided the club with a ‘bleacher’ and the Social Impact Amelioration Programme assisted with a multi-purpose centre. The club contributed $842,000. Derick Lalsa Jr contributed equipment for the club’s gym and villager Frankie Tulsi donated a tennis table.

In 2010 the senior team went to Suriname to play against the national team, emerging victorious. The Suriname team had earlier visited Guyana and played against D'Edward Sports Club at the Providence Stadium.
