Amir Khan hails from Enmore, East Coast Demerara. His father was left-arm spinner in the 1980's and 1990's who represented Police Sports Club in Georgetown first division cricket. Amir represents Evererst Cricket Club.
Amir made his debut for Guyana in the 2007 regional Under-15 tournament. In 2001 he took the most wickets the TCL Regional Under-19 competition, held in the Windward Islands. In his first match that year he took 11 wickets for 94 runs against the Leewards, at the Dennery in St Lucia. He took two more five-wicket hauls, for a total of 27 wickets. He also had useful scores with the bat.
For his outstanding efforts Amir won the junior Cricketer-Of-The-Year and the TCL Under-19 Bowler-Of-The-Year awards for 2010.
In 2011 Amir was drafted into the Guyana first class team as a replacement for Devendra Bishoo, who was representing the West Indies in the World Cup on the Indian sub-continent. Bishoo's fine performances for the West Indies will quite likely mean that Amir will have many more opportunities to represent Guyana, and hopefully learn from the outstanding Albion leg-spinner.
Amir was one of 3 Guyanese youth players representing the West Indies Under-19 team in the Under-15 world championship in Dubai, in April 2011.
