Babu Sankar, a versatile all-rounder from West Demerara, made his debut for the Guyana youth team in the 1973 Benson & Hedges Regional Youth tournament, in St Lucia. He took 4 wickets in the second innings of his first match, against the Combined Islands. In his next match he scored 66 against Barbados.
He played for the Guyana youth team again the following year, when the Benson & Hedges Regional Youth tournament was played in Guyana, taking 6 for 47 in the second innings against Trinidad & Tobago, at Skeldon.
Showing good all-round ability in regional youth competition, Sankar was chosen to tour England in the summer of 1974 with the West Indies Young Cricketers, where he was moderately successful with the ball, in a West Indies attack dominated by Wayne Daniel. Also on the tour was Guyanese Timur Mohamed.
Babu Sankar emigrated to the USA, where he played cricket in New York for many years before moving to Florida.
