A reliable fast bowler for Guyana, Stuart was called up for Test duty as the selectors desperately tried to find match-winning fast bowlers to rebuild the West Indies team. The extra pressure of Test cricket, especially in a team striving hard to regain past glory, took its toll on Stuart's knees, ending his career prematurely for both Guyana and the West Indies.
Stuart took part in the only instance in Test cricket history, when three bowlers were used in completing one over. In 2001, against Sri Lanka in Kandy, Mervyn Dillon contracted abdominal pains after bowling two balls of his third over. Stuart replaced him, only to be banned by Umpire John Hampshire from bowling for the remainder of Sri Lanka's innings, after delivering two high, fast full-tosses (called as no-balls) in his first three balls. Chris Gayle then bowled the final three legitimate deliveries of the over.
In October 2013 Colin Stuart was appointed Territorial Development Officer for the Guyana Cricket Board, replacing Monte Lynch, who hastily resigned after holding the post for just a few weeks.
