Kemo Paul, a fast bowling all-rounder, started playing cricket seriously at the age of 11, after his family moved from Saxakali, in the Essequibo River, to the island of Wakenaam at the mouth of the same river. He became a member of the Noitgedacht Sports Club in Wakenaam, and Demerara Cricket Club (in Georgetown) later. He was invited to Essequibo County Under-15 trials after his cricketing abilities were noted while representing the Essequibo Islands Secondary School.
Paul was captain of the Guyana Under-15 team in the 2012 Regional tournament in St. Kitts, where his best performance was 76 and 3-15, against the Windwards. In the 2013 Regional Under-17 tournament in Trinidad & Tobago, he scored 54 against the Leewards and took 3 for 29 against Jamaica. He also scored a half century against Demerara in the 2013 senior inter-county one-day tournament.
In 2014 Paul scored a century in the inter-county Under-19 2-innings competition, after which he was selected as one of six Under-19 players to train with the Guyana Amazon Warriors during the 2014 Caribbean Premier League.
