Dr Meer Saider Alli-Shaw represented the counties of Essequibo and Demerara at cricket, in 1936, 1937, 1941, 1947, 1950, 1955 and 1957. He was also captain of the Guyana Indians against Pakistan in 1957, and against Trinidad & Tobago, also in 1957.
He was Chief de Mission and Medical Officer of the Guyana Olympic Team in Tokyo in 1964.
He attended Enmore Primary School (East Coast Demerara) and Johanna Cecilia Primary School (Essequibo). He obtained his higher education in New York and Dublin. In Guyana he opened the Alli-Shaw Hospital, where he was also a practicing doctor.
