Narsingh Deonarine made his debut for the Guyana Under-19 team in 1998. He made his senior debut for Guyana at the age of 17 in 2000, and subsequently captained the West Indies Under-19 team. He made his debut for the senior West Indies team in 2005 against South Africa, when seven regular members of the West Indies team were dropped from the team as a result of contract disputes.
In 2009 Narsingh Deonarine became the first person to score 1000 runs in a single year in regional first class cricket. He was offered a Retainer Contract by the WICB for the contract period October 1, 2009 to September 30, 2010 which he accepted. He played for the West Indies team as a retained player shortly thereafter, during the team’s tour of Australia in December 2009. On that tour he made his first Test 50 and his then highest Test score of 82.
Narsingh, however, received a letter from the WICB, dated 11 Jan 2010, stating that following a review of the Australia tour, the WICB had "concerns" about his "attitude to fitness and physical preparation". He was not allowed to represent the West Indies unless he passed "fitness tests". On 02 Aug 2012 he was awarded damages amounting to TT$500,000 in an arbitration over this matter between WIPA and WICB.
At the Third Annual Awards Ceremony of the Berbice Cricket Board in Feb 2010, Narsingh Deonarine received the "Berbice Cricketer of the Year" award.
