(Report based on Guyana Chronicle, Guyana Times and Kaieteur News articles.)

Berbice allrounder Clinton Pestano smashed a blistering 82 to help defending champions Berbice defeat Essequibo by two wickets in Round Two of the GCB Inter-County 50 overs tournament at the Demerara Cricket Club ground, Queenstown. Essequibo scored 173 for 7 and Berbice replied with 174 for 8. The game was reduced to 30-overs aside due to seepage from the covers that prevented play for almost three hours.

Essequibo were sent in to bat by Berbice and were given a solid start by the Fredericks brothers, Royon and Norman, who added 34 for the first wicket before Norman was caught off Clinton Pestano for 25 (4×4, 30 balls). Dillon Heyliger then joined Royan and took the score to 70 before Heyliger was bowled by Gudakesh Motie Kanhai for 21 (1×4, 1×6).

Eon Hooper then trapped Royan leg before one run later. However, left-handed all-rounder Ricardo Adams scored a blazing 63 (4x4, 5x6, 35 balls) to take Essequibo to 173 for 7 when the innings closed. Jason Heyliger scored 8, Anthony Adams 8 and Wayne Osborne was run out for 1. Pestano took 2 for 38 off 5 overs, Eon Hooper 2 for 29 off 6 overs, Keon Joseph one and Gudakesh Motie-Kanahai one.

In reply, Berbice opener Sewnarine Chattergoon hit pacer Dillon Heyliger for a four and a six in the first over before being bowled in the same over with the score on 10. Fellow opener Richard Ramdeen was then run out in the 5th over for 7, with the score at 22. Eight runs later Fudadin was caught off Jason Heyliger for 5 in the 7th over and without addition to the score Gajanand Singh was trapped in front by Anthony Adams in the next over for 4.

Berbice then lost Delbert Hicks who was caught off left-arm spinner Herrell Greene for 5, with the score at 38 in the 12th over. However, Pestano and Zamal Khan added 41, however, before Khan was run out for 14. At that stage Pestano started counter-attacking before being run out for 82 (3x4, 7x6, 58 balls) with the score at 144. His fifty was scored off 44 balls.

Hooper and Motie-Kanahai added 19 when Hooper was also run out, from a direct hit from square leg by Ricardo Adams, for 17 (1x6) at 159 for 8. With 14 needed from 12 balls Motie-Kanhai and Krishendat Ramoo scored 9 from the penultimate over. The first ball of the final over, bowled by Dillon Heyliger, was a wide. Hooper then took two runs off the next and glided the third to the fine leg boundary to give Berbice victory.

Anthony Adams, Herry Greene, Dellon Heyliger and Jason Heyliger picked up a wicket apiece.
