(Report based on Kaieteur News, Guyana Chronicle and guyana Times articles.)

Tagenarine Chanderpaul slammed an unbeaten 59 as the President's XI defeated defending champions GT&T Berbice by 6 wickets, when the Guyana Cricket Board Senior Inter County 50-over Cricket competition commenced at Demerara Cricket Club. Berbice were dismissed for 151 in 45.4 overs. The President XI replied with 154-4 in 41.4 overs.

Berbice won the toss and choose to bat on a slow, low pitch but lost Richard Ramdeen, who was bowled by pacer Gilford Moore for 1, with the score at 8. Sewnarine Chattergoon and Assad Fudadin then put on 27 for the second wicket before Chattergoon was caught at mid-off by Krishna Arjune off Brandon Bess for 10.

Fudadin and Gajanand Singh took the total to 63 before Fudadin 22 (2×4, 69 balls) was bowled by Devon Clements, who also trapped Zamal Khan lbw for 0, leaving the score at 63-4. Berbice was soon 65-5, before Delbert Hicks 30 (3x4, 2x6) and Eon Hooper 12 (29 balls) added 38 for the sixth wicket. Hicks was in a no-nonsense mood, hitting both Moore and La Fleur for sixes, before being caught by Jeetendra Sookdeo at midwicket off Clements.

Hooper soon departed for 12 and Pereira for 0, but Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai and Keon Joseph added 38 for the last wicket before Joseph was stumped off Jitendra Sookdeo for 7. Motie-Kanhai, who hit Moore for two sixes in one over, was not out on 31 (2×4, 2×6, 37 balls). Clements was the pick of the President's XI bowlers with 4-32 off 10 overs, Eugene La Fleur 3-26 off 10 overs, Bess 1-23 and Moore 1-29).

In reply, the President XI lost their first wicket at 9 after pacer Keon Joseph bowled opener Krishna Arjune for 1. Former national Under-19 player Essequibian Kevon Boodie and Tagenarine Chanderpaul then added an enterprising 90 for the second wicket from 21.2 overs, before Boodie was dismissed for 48 (7x4, 62 balls). He hit three fours in one over from Joseph before he was caught by Pereira off Motie-Kanhai.

From 99 for 2, the President’s XI slipped to 108 for 4, losing Elton Baker, who was bowled by Motie-Kanhai for 1, and Jitendra Sookdeo caught behind off Joseph for 4. Chanderpaul reached his half-century from 90 deliveries, with three fours and two sixes, struck in successive overs off Chattergoon. Bramble ended the match by hitting Hooper for two sixes in the 42nd over, adding 46 for the fifth wicket with Chanderpaul.

Chanderpaul was 59 (4×4, 2×6, 129 balls) not out and Anthony Bramble 26 (2×6) not out. Motie-Kanhai took 2-27 off 10 overs and Joseph, who was suspended from bowling after delivering two beamers, 2-36 from 7.5 overs.
