The President’s XI fought back against Essequibo at the close of play on the first day in the third and final round of the Guyana Cricket Board Senior 4-day Inter County tournament, at Wales.
The President’s XI won the toss and decided to bat, but medium pacer Mark Tyrell dismissed Kevon Boodie for 0 and Tagenarine Chanderpaul for 9, to leave them at 20-2. Elton Baker and Devon Clements then added 35 for the 3rd wicket before Baker was lbw to Anthony Adams for 14. Clements was then bowled by Royan Federicks for 20 as the President’s XI slipped to 64-4.
Anthony Bramble and Dexter Solomon added 37 for the 5th wicket before Vijay Surajpaul dismissed Bramble for 36. Adams then dismissed the rest of the batting by removing Solomon for 16, Raj Nanan for 8, Steven Latcha for 4, La fleur for 26 and Seon Daniels for 0, as the President’s XI were dismissed for 157 off 82 overs. Brandon Bess was left not out on 4 while Adams, who bowled with good control, finished with 7-33. Mark Tyrell, Royan Federicks and Surajpaul took one each.
Essequibo in response lost Norman Federicks, bowled by Daniels for 3, as they ended the day on 4-1. Royan Federicks was on 1.

Steven Latcha took 5 wickets for 26 runs off 22 overs as the President’s XI gained first innings points from Essequibo when play on the second day concluded at Wales.
Essequibo started the day on 4-1 and were pegged back by purposeful bowling by the President’s XI. They soon lost skipper Royan Federicks for 1, bowled by Steven Latcha, without addition to the overnight score. Latcha then dismissed Dillon Heyliger for 0 at 24 before Seon Daniels had Ricardo Adams caught behind by wicketkeeper Dexter Solomon for 1, to leave Essequibo at 31-4.
Herrell Green and the promising Vijay Surajpaul then added 31 for the 5th wicket before Latcha bowled Surajpaul for 5 and dismissed Grayson Paul for 0 with the score at 62. Essequibo then lost Green for 38 (2x4, 1x6, 150 balls), Kenzo Baksh for 11, Anthony Adams for 14 and Kemo Paul for 0 as they were bowled out for 100 in 45.5 overs. Mark Tyrell was not out on 0. Raj Nanan 3-14 and Seon Daniels 2-31 supported Latcha.
The President’s XI, with a lead of 57, were 7-0 off 3.5 overs when rain stopped play at 15:52 hrs. Failure to to get the covers on the pitch in a timely manner forced the umpires to call off play for the day. Chanderpaul was on 1, Kevon Boodie on 0 and Extras on 6.
