Day One Report (windiescricket.com)

AT STETHS - Guyana suffered not one, but two collapses on Day as the Windward Islands romped to first innings points and are already sighting an outright victory. Asked to bat first, the Guyanese batsmen could not cope with Alick Anthanaze and Narlin Singh, both of whom finished with three wickets.

Guyana lost wickets at regular intervals, right up to their dismissal of 79 all out in 37 overs. The highest score of the innings came from Mark Williams who was run out for 28. Only Williams and Bhaskar Yadram (10) got into double figures.

In response, the Windwards romped to 124/8 from their 38 overs to open up a lead of 45 runs on first innings. Opener, Johann Jeremiah led the way with a solid 32 while Emmanuel Stewart struck 54 in the middle order to bolster the Windwards' first innings. There were no other real contributions from the Windwards batting as Guyana tried desperately to pull the match back.

Richie Luknauth grabbed 5-39 while Ronaldo Mohammed had 3-40. But ultimately, Guyana's batting in the second innings squandered their good work. Shane Roberts, Alick Athanaze and Narlin Singh all took two wickets each to leave Guyana reeling at Stumps on Day 1 on 24/6, still trailing the Windwards' first innings by 21 runs.

Day 2 Report (Guyana Times)

An unbeaten second-wicket partnership between Grenadians Johann Jeremiah and Emmanuel Stewart steered the Windward Islands to a nine-wicket victory over Guyana in their second round match of the West Indies Under-15 cricket tournament being played in Jamaica.

Set a target of 54 runs for victory, the Grenadians set about the task after Jeremiah lost his opening partner in Vice-captain St Lucian Nick Elibox with the score on 19. He was joined by his skipper Stewart as they reached their target safely.

Jeremiah and Stewart were unbeaten on 27 and 17 respectively in the Windwards’ total of 55 for one off 15.4 overs.

Earlier, the Guyanese failed to pass 100 runs yet again as they were bundled out for 99 in their second innings with another Grenadian Narun Singh taking three for 20 off nine overs to finish with match figures of six for 34 off 14 overs including five maidens.

Alic Athanaze from Dominica also took three wickets, with St Lucian Johnell Eugene  – the son of former Windward Islands player John Eugene – and Shane Roberts of St Vincent finishing with two wickets each.

Timothy McAlmont was the only Guyana batsman to provide some resistance in their second innings in a knock of 41 which included five fours off 73 balls before going LBW to Athanaze.

The boys showed a lot of character in coming back after the defeat in the first round,” said Dwain Gill, coach of the Windward Islands. “We planned well for the Guyanese and the boys executed. We are looking forward to the next match against Barbados.

The diminutive Stewart was adjudged Man of the Match for his inspiring 54 in the Windwards’ first innings of 124 for eight.
