Demerara Jones Cup Favorites

A GREAT fight  is anticipated when cup-holders, Demerara clash with Berbice in the Jones Cup final, for the emblem of Inter-County Cricket supremacy, at Georgetown Cricket Club ground, Bourda, today. The five-day match continues tomorrow, Sunday, Monday and concludes on Tuesday.

Clement Neblett

Clement Neblett, the third of five male siblings, was a tall all-rounder and an integral part of the Guyana Police team that won four straight Case Cup first division titles from 1971 to 1974.

Linden Joseph

Linden Joseph made his first class debut, as a 17-year-old fast bowler, for Demerara in 1986. The following year, he made his first class debut for Guyana, against Barbados in Bridgetown.

Nezam Hafiz

A stylish No 3 batsman from Malteenoes Sports Club in Georgetown, his stroke play epitomised timing. He was selected for the 1987 Guyana Under-19 team after consistent batting in local tournaments, which was crowned with a classy 78 not out for Demerara in the GTM Under-19 final against Berbice earlier in 1987.

Ovid Glasgow

Ovid Glasgow, a competent wicketkeeper and batsman, opened the batting for the Police Sports Club in Georgetown. He played three first class matches for Guyana in the 1967 Shell Shield and a single first class match for Demerara in 1971.

Keith Glasgow

Keith Glasgow made his first class debut for Guyana against the Indian touring team in March 1971, before his first class debut for Demerara in October 1971. He played two List A matches for Guyana in 1973 and opened the batting for North & East Trinidad in the Beaumont Cup in 1982.

Glasgow was a good utility player who frequently opened the bowling and who scored a first class century.

Sheik Mohamed

Sheik Mohamed made his debut for the Guyana Under-19 team in the 1981 West Indies Youth competition, in Guyana. He also played in the 1982 Neal & Massey youth competition in Trinidad & Tobago and the 1983 Neal & Massey youth competition in Jamaica, scoring a half century in his last youth match.

He made his first class debut for Guyana in February 1988, before his first class debut for Demerara in October 1988. His List A debut for Guyana followed in February 1989.
